WFG Insights Anniversary Edition: Episode 3 – Leadership, Legacy & Looking Forward

As Williston Financial Group (WFG) celebrates its 15th anniversary, the third and final episode of our special WFG Insights Anniversary Edition podcast offers a personal reflection from Chairman and Founder Patrick Stone. Hosted by Brian Bushlach, the episode explores the values that have guided Stone’s 50-year career, his leadership philosophy, and his vision for WFG and the industry.

Values That Endure

Stone shares that he sees no separation between personal life and business. The same values that shape how you live—honesty, forthrightness, and respect—should guide how you work. For him, success comes from being able to “look in the mirror and like the person you see,” and from treating every colleague as an equal partner in the company’s success.

Building a People-First Company

He also reflects on WFG’s service culture, pointing to its world-class Net Promoter Scores as proof of the company’s impact. By keeping customers informed and creating a transparent closing process, WFG has earned trust while making the homebuying journey less stressful. Stone notes that this people-first approach benefits everyone involved—from buyers and sellers to realtors and lenders.

Looking Forward

The conversation also touches on Stone’s passion for philanthropy, cultural renewal in Portland, affordable housing, and higher education. He stresses the need for greater industry efficiency and collaboration across real estate, lending, and title services to reduce costs and improve the customer experience.

When asked how he hopes to be remembered, Stone’s response is characteristically humble: “I hope I made a difference… helped someone understand something or be more successful at what they do.”
